- Abstract: Correspondence between H.S. Barnes, Foreign Office, Government of India, and C.A. Kemball, Political Resident Persian Gulf, discussing how British influence can best be extended over the Trucial Shaikhs. If any foreign power sought to increase its involvemenet with the Shaikhs 'the Viceroy of India was prepared to bring them under our protectorate at once,whether they liked it or not'.The Political Resident asked the Residency Agent, Sharjah, to report on the tribes of the coast and how far the authority of the Shaikhs extended inland. Includes a statement of British policy and a summary of relevant events on the Trucial Coast 1873 - 1901 and a table in Arabic and English of the towns and villages on the 'Oman coast' with population figures.Physical description: Foliation: There are two incomplete foliation sequences and one complete foliation sequence. The complete sequence is circled in pencil, in the top right corner of the recto of each folio. It begins on the first folio after the front cover, on number 1, and ends on the last folio of writing, on number 46. It should be noted that f.2 is followed by f.2A; the sequence then resumes on f.3. This is the sequence which has been used by this catalogue to reference items within the file.
