- Abstract: The item consists mostly of copies of correspondence, minutes and resolutions cited in, or enclosed with, letters to and from the governments of Bengal and Bombay. It concerns news of French activities in Persia and the Gulf, and the measures to be taken to protect British interests.In particular, the item addresses reports of a French mission to Persia, of an agreement made between Persia and France, and concerns about the threat this might pose to British interests in the Gulf. It is alleged that Persia has agreed to cede the port of Gombroon [Bandar-e ʻAbbās] and the islands of Ormus [Jazīreh-ye Hormoz], Kishm [Qeshm], and Kharick [Kharg] to France, and that a French fleet is heading to the Gulf to take possession of these territories.
