- Abstract: The item consists of copies and extracts of enclosures to political letters from the Government of Bombay [Mumbai] and the East India Company Court of Directors. The item relates to the question of how much compensation should be paid to Dr John McNeill following the cancellation of his appointment as Resident at Bushire [Būshehr]. McNeill had been appointed Resident in November 1830 and had subsequently travelled to Bushire from Tabreez [Tabrīz] with his family during a particularly harsh winter season. The Government of Bombay and the Court of Directors debate how much compensation should be paid for his 'mental and bodily sufferings', in addition to his travel expenses, salary, and loss of earnings.The title page of the item contains the following references: 'Bombay Political Department’, ‘P.C.
