Abstract: A copy of a letter from Lord Minto, Governor-General of Bengal, to Sir Harford Jones, British Envoy Extraordinary to Persia [Iran], sent from Fort William [Kolkata] and dated 30 January 1809. The letter: censures Jones for his conduct during his mission in Persia, in particular his refusal to follow Minto’s instructions to abandon his mission and leave the country, and the perceived damage to the prestige of the Supreme Government of India caused by this; expresses distrust in the Court of Persia, citing the treatment of Brigadier-General John Malcolm and Captain Charles Pasley during an earlier mission to Persia; and again urges Jones to withdraw.The letter was enclosed in Jones’s letter No. 8 to Sir Robert Dundas, President of the Board of Control, dated 1809.Physical description: 1 item (18 folios)
