- Abstract: This part of the volume consists of enclosures to a despatch from the Government of Bombay Secret Department to the Secret Committee, Number 12 of 1841, dated 27 February 1841. The enclosures are dated 26 November 1840 to 27 February 1841.The enclosures consist of correspondence relating to the steam flotilla on the Euphrates (also referred to as the Euphrates Expedition). The principal correspondents are the following: the Secretary to the Government of Bombay (John Pollard Willoughby); the Superintendent of the Indian Navy; the Accountant General, Bombay; the Secretary to the Government of India (Thomas Herbert Maddock); and the Military Board, Bombay.The correspondence concerns the following: a complaint from the Officer in Charge of the Flotilla (Lieutenant C D Campbell) about the exchange rate at which cash was advanced to the Flotilla from the Baghdad Residency Treasury; and the question of the latitude to be allowed to the Officer in Charge of the Euphrates Steam Flotilla in regard to expenditure.Physical description: There is an abstract of contents of the despatch, numbered 1-9, on folios 38-40. These numbers are repeated for reference on the last verso of each enclosure.
