- Abstract: The item consists of copies and extracts of correspondence and resolutions cited in, or enclosed with, extracts of a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, 16 February 1856. A copy of this letter can be found at IOR/F/4/2641/169196, alongside details of further enclosures. The item is the sixth in a series of twelve items on events in the Persian Gulf.The item relates to an incident in which a vessel under British colours, the Kallion[ Kalyān], belonging to Kemjee Cossal [Khemjī Kusal, also rendered in text Kunjee Gopal], became stranded off Sharja [Sharjah] and was subsequently plundered by inhabitants of that place. The incident is reported by Hajee Yacoob [Ḥājjī Ya‘qūb], Native Agent at Sharja, to Commander Felix Jones, Acting Resident in the Persian Gulf. Hajee Yacoob's reports include details of the incident as well as summaries of his conversations with: Ibraheem ben Sultan [Ibrāhīm bin Sultan], Governor of Sharja; Nasir bin Khulfan [Nāṣir bin Khalfān], supercargo of the vessel; and Sheikh Sultan ben Suggur, 'Chief' of Rusul Khymah and the Joasmees [Shaikh Sulṭān I bin Ṣaqr al-Qāsimī, Shaikh of Ra's al-Khaymah and the Qawāsim].Jones forwards the reports on to the Government of Bombay, alongside copies of his own responses and instructions to: Hajee Yacoob; Sheikh Sultan ben Suggur; and Commodore Richard Ethersey, Commanding Indian Naval Squadron in the Persian Gulf.
