Abstract: This item consists of copies of a General Despatch from the Government of India Foreign Department to the Secretary of State for India, dated 6 February 1874 and received by the India Office via Brindisi on 2 March 1874, forwarding: copies of a letter from the Political Agent, Turkish Arabia [Ottoman Iraq], and the reply, regarding rewards to certain Turkish officials for their services in connection with the capture of the 'pirates' who plundered the British mail steamer
Cashmere;and copies of a communication from Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Herbert, forwarding the thanks of Riouf Pasha [Mehmed Rauf Pasha bin Abdi Pasha, also spelled Redif in this item], Governor of Baghdad, for the recognition of his services in connection with the 'piracy'.
