The correspondence consists of the following four items: a petition from Messrs Khubchand to the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; a memorandum from the Secretary to the Political Resident to the Political Agent, Bahrain; two memoranda from the Political Agent, Bahrain to the Residency Agent, Sharjah. The subject matter focuses on British relations with various powers in and around the Persian Gulf during 1823; more specifically, on enforcing the provisions of the General Treaty with the Arab Tribes of the Persian Gulf (1820), and talk of an intended Persian invasion of Bahrain. Abstract: The volume contains correspondence, memoranda, and minutes related to a proposal to relocate the Persian Gulf Air Route (linking Europe and India) from Southern Persia to the Arabian Coast. The proposal is related to difficulties between the British and Persian governments over securing an extension of Imperial Airways' concession to operate in Persia. The volume therefore also contains papers related to the progress of negotiations between the British Government and the Government of Persia.
