Abstract: The letters in the file relate to Mombasa’s brief status as a British protectorate during the years 1824 to 1826, and the plan and execution of British withdrawal from the town, in light of the Imam of Muscat’s disapproval of British occupation (he considered Mombasa be part of his dominions at Zanzibar).
