He also indicates that Meerza Abul Hussan Khan [Mīrzā Abū al-Ḥasan Khān Shīrāzī, Foreign Minister of Persia] remains at Meana and is in a ‘very bad humour at being detained’, and that Baron Rosen [Grigory Vladimirovich Rozen] has been directed by General Paskevitch [General Ivan Fyodorovich Paskevich-Erivansky, Governor-General of Georgia] to remain at Meana until further orders. This document was originally enclosed, numbered 5 in enclosure No. 14, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 16 March 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/201).Physical description: 1 item (2 folios)
Abstract: Copy of a letter from Lieutenant Ronald Dugald Harcourt Macdonald to the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, which was written in two parts dated 8 February 1828 and 10 February 1828. The letter concerns the payment of reparations to Russia as part of the peace treaty negotiated to end the war between Russia and Persia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828]. Lieutenant Macdonald gives details of several stages of his journey accompanying an instalment of three crores of tomans, and reports his imminent departure from Meanna [Mianeh] to Tabreez [Tabriz] accompanied by a guard of Russian soldiers. He also refers to Hussan Ali Meerza [Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mirzā Farmānfarmā, Prince-Governor of Fars] having fallen out of favour with the Shah of Persia [Fatḥ-‘Alī Shāh Qājār], owing to comments he made ‘either in a fit of rage or intoxication’.This document was originally enclosed, numbered 3 in enclosure No. 14, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 16 March 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/201).Physical description: 1 item (2 folios)
Abstract: Copy of a letter from Lieutenant Ronald Dugald Harcourt Macdonald, in Casween [Qazvin], to the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, of 26 January 1828. The letter concerns the payment of reparations to Russia as part of the peace treaty negotiated to end the war between Russia and Persia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828]. Lieutenant Macdonald reports his imminent departure for Tabreez [Tabriz] accompanying the sum of three crores of tomans, which is to be kept for safekeeping by Macdonald Kinneir until it should be paid to Russia. He gives details of the plan for the transport of the money, and other attendant matters, and also indicates that two crores will remain at Casween, as transport measures have not yet been prepared for them. This document was originally enclosed, numbered 2 in enclosure No. 14, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 16 March 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/201).Physical description: 1 item (2 folios)
Abstract: Copy of a letter from the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, in Deckargan [Azarshahr], to his assistant, Dr John McNeill, of 10 January 1828. This letter is in reply to a letter from McNeill (not included in this item) concerning the agreement of peace in the war between Russia and Persia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828], which indicates that the Shah of Persia [Fath-‘Ali Shāh Qājār] has proposed that the province of Azerbijan [Azerbaijan] should be evacuated by Russian troops before the payment of the first instalment of reparations to Russia. Macdonald Kinneir indicates that this proposition is unacceptable to Russia, as it is in contravention of the agreement already negotiated by the Prince [ʿAbbās Mīrzā Qājār, Crown Prince of Persia], and has alarmed the Russian Commander-in-Chief, General Paskevitch [General Ivan Fyodorovich Paskevich-Erivansky, Governor-General of Georgia]. Macdonald Kinneir also recommends that the money intended for payment should not be allowed to be transported past the boundaries of Irack [Arak] unless the Shah intends to pay Russia under the terms already agreed. This document was originally enclosed, numbered 2 in 79, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 10 January 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/154).Physical description: 1 item (2 folios)
