Abstract: The file contains one main document: a letter from the Government of India, Defence Department, Army Branch, New Delhi, 23 December 1939, to the Director General, Indian Medical Service (IMS). The letter notifies the Director General of the Government’s decision to suspend departmental examinations for the promotion of Assistant and Sub-Assistant Surgeons of the Indian Medical Department (IMD), for the duration of the Second World War (1939-1945).
