Abstract: A copy of a letter from Captain John Malcolm, former Envoy of the Supreme Government of India to Persia [Iran], to the Secret Committee of the Court of Directors of the East India Company, sent from Bombay [Mumbai] and dated 16 November 1802. The letter concerns actions taken following the death in Bombay of the Persian Ambassador to India [Hājī Muhammad Khalīl Khān Qazvīnī], including: measures by the Governor in Council of Bombay (Jonathan Duncan) to assist the Ambassador's relations and adherents; Malcolm's encouragement of members of the mission to return to Persia and assuage the rumours around the Ambassador’s death; the transfer of the Ambassador’s body to Nejef [Najaf] for burial; the diplomatic missions of Lieutenant Charles Pasley and Jonathan Lovett, the newly appointed Resident at Bushire [Būshehr]; and the despatch of letters of condolence to Persian officials.Physical description: 1 item (6 folios)
