Date:
1818/1818
Description:
Abstract: Copy of an official note by HM Chargé d'Affaires to Persia [Iran], Henry Willock, to the Sudr Aazim [Sadr-i A’zam, Prime Minister] of the Shah of Persia, Mirza Sheffee [Mirza Muḥammad Shafī‘ Māzandarānī]. The letter concerns the Persian claim for payment of the sum of 84,000 tomans, on account of the subsidy previously paid by the East India Company to Persia. Willock refutes the claim, explaining that money had been deducted from the subsidy on account of the affair concerning the debts and imprisonment of Mahomed Nabee Khan [Muḥammad Nabī Khan], the former Vizier of the Governor of Fars, in which the Acting Resident at Bushire, William Bruce, had intervened (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/136).The letter was enclosed in Willock’s letter to HM Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Viscount Castlereagh, of 4 December 1818 (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/179), which was received on 29 April 1819.Physical description: 1 item (4 folios)
