- Abstract: A copy of a letter from Mountstuart Elphinstone, Governor of Bombay [Mumbai], to Henry Willock, HM Chargé d’Affaires in Persia [Iran], sent from Bombay Castle and dated 12 May 1821.The letter forwards a dispatch from Commander of the British troops on Kishm [Qeshm] concerning the arrival of an envoy from the Prince of Sheraz [Shīrāz] [Husayn ‘Ali Mīrzā Farmānfarmā, Prince-Governor of Fārs] to protest the British occupation of the island (IOR/L/PS/9/69/77). It also announces the appointment of Dr Andrew Jukes as an envoy to discuss the issue of Kishm with the Persian authorities.The letter was enclosed in Willock’s letter to the Secret Committee of the Court of Directors of the East India Company dated 1 September 1821 (IOR/L/PS/9/69/75).Physical description: Condition: the letter was perforated in an attempt to stop the spread of disease.
