- Abstract: A copy of a letter from Henry Willock, HM Chargé d’Affaires in Persia [Iran], to Mountstuart Elphinstone, Governor of Bombay [Mumbai], sent from Tehran and dated 22 January 1822.Following the death of Dr Andrew Jukes during a mission to Persia, the letter reports Willock’s assumption of Jukes’s mission to obtain the approval of Persian officials for the occupation of Kishm [Qeshm] by British forces, and forwards his correspondence with Mirza Abdul Wahab [Mīrzā Abdul Wahāb Nishāt Isfahānī, Foreign Minister of Persia] on the subject (IOR/L/PS/9/69/80-85). The letter reports the refusal of the Shah [Fath-‘Ali Shāh Qājār] to accept the occupation. It also covers the re-appointment of William Bruce as Resident of Bushire [Būshehr] and the claim of the Imam of Muscat to Kishm.The letter was enclosed in Willock’s letter the Secret Committee of the Court of Directors of the East India Company dated 25 January 1822 (IOR/L/PS/9/69/79).Physical description: Condition: the letter was perforated in an attempt to stop the spread of disease.
