‘Translation of a letter addressed by H.R.H. Abbas Mirza to H.E. General Wilhemenoff’
Date:
1825/1827
Description:
Abstract: Translation of a letter addressed by the Crown Prince of Persia [Iran], Abbas Mirza ['Abbās Mīrzā Qājār], to General Wilhemenoff, who is working on behalf of the Governor-General of Georgia, General Yermoloff [General Aleksey Petrovich Yermolov]. The letter is in reply to Wilhemenoff’s letter concerning the stationing of Russian troops on territory contested between Russia and Persia in the Caucasus (see IOR/L/PS/9/70/68). Abbas Mirza denies that Russia has any right to station soldiers on the contested territory, and contests Wilhemenoff’s definition of the frontier and his claims concerning the Sirdar of Erivan [Yerevan] interfering with the Russian troops, demanding the withdrawal of these soldiers. This document was originally enclosed in Willock’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 17 February 1826 (IOR/L/PS/9/70/66).Physical description: 1 item (4 folios)
