- Description:
- Abstract: The translation of a note delivered by Meerza Sadok [Mirza Muhammad Sadiq Marvazi] to the Russian authorities in Georgia during his mission to negotiate a solution to the ongoing frontier dispute between Russia and Persia [Iran] concerning land on the shores of the lake of Gokcheh [Lake Sevan]. The note conveys the ‘spirit of the Shah’s message’ concerning the frontier dispute, denying the validity of the previous agreement made concerning the frontier, as negotiated by Futteh Allee Khan [Fath-‘Ali Khan Rashti], which the Shah refuses to ratify. The note demands that the Russian authorities therefore ‘pause’ until either a Persian envoy has successfully concluded negotiations at St Petersburgh [St Petersburg], or else the Russians provide Persia with a formal notification of their refusal to ‘pause’.This document was originally enclosed in the letter of HM Chargé d’Affaires to Persia, Henry Willock, to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 2 April 1826 (IOR/L/PS/9/70/75).Physical description: 1 item (6 folios)
