- Description:
- Abstract: Translation of a letter from Commandant Chelneff [Chelnev] to the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir. In the letter, Chelneff requests that Macdonald Kinneir communicate to the Prince Royal (Crown Prince of Persia, ʿAbbās Mirza Qājār) his wish to be released from his captivity amongst a group of Russian prisoners of war being held at Geroos [Goris] and be allowed to travel to Tabreez [Tabriz], claiming that he is not himself a prisoner of war but is being held as a hostage. He indicates that he has ‘much to add’ which cannot be written down, the particulars of which he will state to the Prince Royal should he reach Tabreez. This document was originally enclosed, numbered 3 in No. 43, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 23 March 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/70/192).Physical description: 1 item (2 folios)
