- Date:
- 1827/1827
- Description:
- Abstract: Translation of a letter from Abbas Meerza [ʿAbbās Mīrzā Qājār, Crown Prince of Persia] to the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, of 16 December 1827. The letter concerns the payment of reparations by Persia to Russia as part of the peace agreement to end the war between Russia and Persia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828]. Abbas Meerza affirms a plan for the first instalment of the reparations to be paid to Macdonald Kinneir’s assistant, Dr John McNeill, to hold in deposit. He also complains about the reluctance of the Persian Ministers to pay the money until they have had an opportunity to discuss the agreed treaty. He argues that he has kept them apprised of the negotiations and was given full powers to negotiate the treaty by the King [Shāh of Persia, Fatḥ-ʿAlī Shāh Qājār], and points to the fact that Russia will not conclude the peace treaty until the money has been paid. This document was originally enclosed, numbered 4 in 79, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 10 January 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/154).Physical description: 1 item (2 folios)
