- Abstract: Copies of translated letters from the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, to the Moatumud oo Dowleh [Mīrzā ‘Abd al-Wahhāb Nishāṭ Iṣfahānī, Mu‘tamid al-Dawlah] and the Kaim Mukam [Mīrzā Abū al-Qāsim Farāhānī, Qāʾim-Maqām, the Vizier of the Crown Prince of Persia]. The letters concern the payment of reparations by Persia as part of the peace agreement to end the war between Russia and Persia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828].In his letters to the Moatumud oo Dowleh, Macdonald Kinneir reports the appointment of an officer by the Russian Commander-in-Chief, General Paskevitch [General Ivan Fyodorovich Paskevich-Erivansky, Governor-General of Georgia], to proceed towards Tahron [Tehran] and to receive any payments made to Russia en route. He also communicates the arrangements for the payments agreed by General Paskevitch and Abbas Meerza [ʿAbbās Mīrzā Qājār, Crown Prince of Persia], indicating that the province of Azerbijan [Azerbaijan] will not be fully evacuated by Russian troops until eight crores of tomans [Persian currency] have been paid to Russia.In Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Kaim Mukam, he requests that he send a copy of the proposed treaty of peace to the Ministers of the Shah of Persia [Fatḥ-‘Alī Shāh Qājār], who are reportedly refusing to make payments until a copy of the treaty has been received by them.This document was originally enclosed, numbered 6 in 79, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 10 January 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/154).Physical description: 1 item (4 folios)
