- Description:
- Abstract: Translation of a letter from the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, to Mirza Abdul Wahab, the Moatumud oo Dowleh [Mīrzā ‘Abd al-Wahhāb Nishāṭ Iṣfahānī, Mu‘tamid al-Dawlah], of 18 December 1827. The letter concerns the payment of reparations by Persia arranged between the Russian Commander-in-Chief [General Ivan Fyodorovich Paskevich-Erivansky, Governor-General of Georgia] and Abbas Meerza [ʿAbbās Mīrzā Qājār, Crown Prince of Persia], as part of the peace agreement to end the war between Russia and Persia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828]. In the letter Macdonald Kinneir argues in favour of making the payments to ensure peace, and lays out the conditions agreed for payment:That on the receipt of five crores of tomans [Persian currency] peace will be agreedThat on the payment of a further three crores the province of Azerbijan [Azerbaijan] will be fully evacuated by Russian troopsThat if intelligence of payments having left Tehran is not received by the Russian authorities by 4 Jamadee-ul-Akhir [Jumādá al-Ākhirah], Russian forces will break the current truce and advance. This document was originally enclosed, numbered 7 in 79, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 10 January 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/154).Physical description: 1 item (2 folios)
