- Abstract: Translation of a letter from the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, to Meerza Abdul Wahab [Mīrzā ‘Abd al-Wahhāb Nishāṭ Iṣfahānī, Mu‘tamid al-Dawlah], of 15 December 1827. In the letter Macdonald Kinneir indicates that rather than reply directly to Meerza Abdul Wahab’s previous letters, he has been communicating via his assistant, Dr John McNeill. Macdonald Kinneir also details the peace agreement negotiated for an end to the war between Russia and Persia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828], including Persia’s cession of Nuckshirvan [Nakhchivan], Erivan [Yerevan] and Talish, and the payment of twelve crores of tomans [Persian currency] to Russia. He includes the agreed terms of payment:That on the receipt of five crores peace will be agreedThat on the payment of a further three crores the province of Azerbijan [Azerbaijan] will be fully evacuated by Russian troops, apart from Khoi [Khoy]That if ten crores is paid at once Azerbijan will be evacuated immediately.This document was originally enclosed, numbered 8 in 79, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 10 January 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/154).Physical description: 1 item (2 folios)
