- Description:
- Abstract: The reply of Abbas Mirza [ʿAbbās Mīrzā Qājār, Crown Prince of Persia] to the proclamation issued by the Russian Commander-in-Chief, General Peskowitch [General Ivan Fyodorovich Paskevich-Erivansky, Governor-General of Georgia], which announced the breaking off of peace negotiations and the recommencement of hostilities in the war between Persia [Iran] and Russia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828] (see IOR/L/PS/9/71/177). Abbas Mirza responds to the reasons given by Peskowitch, discussing the agreed stipulations for the payment of reparations to Russia and indicating that the money will be paid, and gives his assurance of the sincere desire of the King [Fatḥ-‘Alī Shāh Qājār, Shāh of Persia] and the Persian Government to agree peace. He also discusses other factors raised in Peskowitch’s proclamation, referring to reports that Persian troops have been ordered to advance to Zinjan [Zanjan] and dismissing the notion that the other Princes [sons of the Shāh of Persia] will prevent the agreement of peace. This document was originally enclosed, numbered 8 in dispatch No. 81, in the letter of the East India Company Envoy to Persia, Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinnier, to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 21 January 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/154).Physical description: 1 item (3 folios)
