- Date:
- 1828/1828
- Description:
- Abstract: Translation of a Firmaun [firman, a letter or order] from the Shah of Persia [Fatḥ-‘Alī Shāh Qājār] to the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, dated Rujab [Rajab] AH 1243 [approximately January 1828]. The Shah directs Macdonald Kinneir to conclude peace in the ongoing war with Russia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828], in concert with the Foreign Minister of Persia, Meerza Abul Hassan Khan [Mīrzā Abū al-Ḥasan Khān Shīrāzī], and requests that he communicate this order to Abbas Meerza [ʿAbbās Mīrzā Qājār, Crown Prince of Persia] so that the latter will attend the negotiations and ‘finish this business’. The Shah also indicates that the assembled troops from Khorussan [Khorasan] and Irak [Arak] will not undertake any hostile acts, unless the peace agreement should fall through, and also reports that a further crore of tomans is ready for payment as part of the reparations owed to Russia. This document was originally enclosed, numbered 4 in enclosure No. 4, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 16 March 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/201).Physical description: 1 item (2 folios)
