‘Translation of a Ruckhum from H.R.H. Abbas Mirza to Lieut Col. Macdonald Envoy at the Court of Persia’
Date:
1828/1828
Description:
Abstract: Translation of a ruckhum [raqm, also known as a raqim, a letter or an order] from Abbas Mirza [ʿAbbās Mīrzā Qājār, Crown Prince of Persia] to the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, dated January [1828]. Abbas Mirza indicates that the site nominated by General Paskevitch for the signature of the peace treaty to end the war between Russia and Persia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828] is Turkoman Chai [Turkamanchay]. Objecting to this ‘unfit and inconvenient town’, he indicates that he will remain at a ‘small place’ in the vicinity, and hopes that with Macdonald Kinneir’s intercession, a ‘more suitable spot’ may be agreed upon. This document was originally enclosed, numbered 8 in enclosure No. 5, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 16 March 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/201).Physical description: 1 item (2 folios)
