- Abstract: A copy of a letter from the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, to Meerza Abul Hassan Khan [Mīrzā Abū al-Ḥasan Khān Shīrāzī], Persian Minister for Foreign Affairs, sent from Tabreez [Tabriz] and dated 14 August 1828.The letter concerns the local Government of Azerbijan’s [Azerbaijan] need for a sum of money to secure the withdrawal of Russian troops from Khoee [Khoy] in accordance with the Treaty of Toorkmanchaee [Turkamanchay]. Macdonald Kinneir offers to contribute 200,000 tomans in return for the ratification of the abrogation of the third and fourth articles of the Definitive Treaty, which concern British subsidies and military aid to Persia.This document was originally enclosed, numbered 3 in dispatch No. 114, in Macdonald Kinneir’s dispatch No. 36 to the Secret Committee of the Court of Directors of the East India Company of 5 October 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/262).Physical description: 1 item (3 folios)
