- Abstract: The item consists of copies and extracts of correspondence, minutes and resolutions, cited in, or enclosed with, an extract from a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, 23 June 1849.The item relates to a claim for 286 tomans against Mrs Takwee [Taguhi] Shee, widow of the late Colonel Basil Shee, by an Armenian merchant named Sarkis Satoor [also rendered in text as Sarkeis and Sarkies]. Mrs Shee is owed money from the Persian [Iranian] Government, as her husband’s pay was in arrears at the time of his death. The item contains discussions about the validity of Mr Satoor’s claim and the validity of Mrs Shee's counter-claim that she had previously left him with articles for sale worth 231 tomans.Principal correspondents include: Gilbert James Blane, Acting Accountant General; Colonel Francis Farrant, HM Chargé d’Affaires at Teheran [Tehran]; Augustus Smith Le Messurier, Advocate General; the Court of Directors; and the governments of Bombay and India.All of the material in the item dates from 1848-49, except from an extract of a letter from the Court of Directors which is dated 22 July 1846.The title page of the item contains the following references: ‘Bombay Political Department’, ‘Draft No. 714/49’, ‘Collection No. 17 of No. 56’, and ‘Examiner’s Office’.
