- Abstract: The item consists of copies and extracts of correspondence, minutes and resolutions, cited in, or enclosed with, an extract of a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, 16 September 1850.The item relates to the payment of expenses incurred by Captain Atkins Hamerton, HM Consul and the Company's Agent at Zanzibar. The expenses relate to: assisting two Johanna 'chiefs' [rulers from Anjouan] in Zanzibar; use of the Company ship Tigris; and repairs to Hamerton's official residence and to the flag staff [flagpole]. The item includes copies of Hamerton's bills, statements and relevant correspondence, which he sends to the Government of Bombay along with instructions for reimbursement.
