- Abstract: This item consists of copies of correspondence, minutes, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay. These political letters appear in IOR/F/4/2174/105546. It is the thirty-second in a series of forty-five items on the Persian Gulf.The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Major Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf; Shaik Abdoollah bin Saeed Moodavee [Shaikh ‘Abdullāh bin Sa‘d al-Mudāwī], Governor of Kateef [Al-Qatif]; and Lieutenant John Stephens, Senior Indian Naval Officer Commanding the Squadron in the Persian Gulf.The item concerns a request to Hennell from Shaik Abdoollah bin Saeed Moodavee for British assistance against Humud bin Mujuddel [Ḥamad bin Majdal] and the Amaeer [al-‘Amāyir] tribe. Shaik Abdoollah accuses the Amaeer of ‘piracies’, and threatens similar actions from his own subjects if assistance is not forthcoming. Hennell refuses the request, and sends Lieutenant Stephens to Kateef with the Cliveand Euphratesto transmit his reply.
