- Abstract: This item consists of copies of correspondence, minutes, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay. These political letters appear in IOR/F/4/2416/130506. It is the second in a series of twenty-eight items on the Persian Gulf. The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Major Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf; and Lieutenant James Tronson, commanding the Honourable Company’s brig Euphrates.The item mostly concerns the preparations being made by Sheik Mahomed ben Khuleefa, Chief of Bahrein [Shaikh Muḥammad bin Khalīfah Āl Khalīfah, Ruler of Bahrain], in anticipation of an attack by the sons of Sheik Abdoolla ben Ahmed [Shaikh ‘Abdullāh bin Aḥmad Āl Khalīfah], the former Ruler of Bahrein. While currently based on the island of Kenn [Kish], they are reportedly planning to move to Khor ul Adeed [Khawr al ‘Udayd, also rendered as Khor-al-Adeed in the item] in preparation for an attack on Bahrein. The question of how far Britain should interfere is discussed. There is also a letter from the Court of Directors of the East India Company relating to this subject.The item also refers to several other subjects relating to Sheik Mahomed ben Khaleefa, including the capture of a ship from Karrack [Jazireh-ye Khark] by a party of the Bene Huajier [Banū Hājir] while travelling on a vessel lent to them by Sheik Mahomed.The item contains a table of contents (f 428), and the title page (f 427) contains the following references: ‘Dft.
