- Abstract: The item consists of copies and extracts of correspondence and resolutions cited in, or enclosed with, a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, dated 28 April 1854, and found at IOR/F/4/2575/152543. It is the third in a series of thirteen items about the Persian Gulf.The item contains a letter, dated 16 January 1854, from the Government of India to the Government of Bombay. The letter relates to the recent suggestion that Captain Arnold Burrowes Kemball, Resident in the Persian Gulf, should sometimes be responsible for punishing the subjects of the 'chiefs' of the Gulf for breaking the 'maritime Treaty' [Treaty of Maritime Peace in Perpetuity (1853)]. This would be instead of always holding the 'chiefs' responsible for punishing their subjects themselves.The item also contains a subsequent resolution of the Government of Bombay and a letter from them to Kemball, dated 6 February 1854, informing him of the Government of India's response.The title page of the item contains the following references: 'Bombay Political Department', 'P.C. [Previous Communication] 8964', Draft Number '908 [18]54', 'Collection No. 1 of No. 32 of 1854', 'Vol: 3', and 'Examiner's Office'.
