- Abstract: The item consists of copies and extracts of correspondence, minutes and resolutions, cited in, or enclosed with, a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, 29 August 1854. A copy of this letter can be found at IOR/F/4/2586/154786, alongside details of further enclosures. The item is the fourth in a series of nine items on events in the Persian Gulf 1853-54.The item contains reports from Commodore George Robinson, Commanding the Persian Gulf Squadron, to Captain Arnold Burrowes Kemball, Resident in the Persian Gulf, following Robinson's cruise around the southern end of the Gulf. His reports mention:Money provided by Sheikh Ahmed ben Rashid, Sheikh of Ejmaun [Shaikh Aḥmad bin Rāshid, Shaikh of Ajman], as restitution for property plundered by his subjects from a village on the island of Kishm [Qeshm]His opinion that a sense of calm has been restored to the region following the conflict over Bunder Abbas [Bandar-e ʻAbbas] between the Imaum [Imām] of Muscat and the Prince of FarsReturn of a ship from Shargah [Sharjah] to Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi], following its theft by a group of enslaved people who had escapedComplaints by Sheikh Sultan ben Suggur [Shaikh Sulṭān I bin Ṣaqr al-Qāsimī] that subjects of Debaye [Dubai] had abducted some of his dependents' enslaved people.Robinson includes copy of his instructions to Lieutenant Robert Austice Stradling, Commanding the Constance, in one of his letters. Kemball forwards the reports, alongside his own comments, to the Government of Bombay.The title page of the item contains the following references: 'Bombay Political Department', Draft Number '20 1855', 'Collection No. 5 of No. 58 of 1854', 'Vol: 3' and 'Examiner's Office'. Originally, the Collection number was given as '3' but this has been crossed out and replaced with '5'.Physical description: Foliation: the foliation sequence for this description (used for referencing) commences at f 848, and terminates at f 854, as it is part of a larger physical volume; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the bottom right corner of the recto side of each folio.Pagination: the item also contains an original pagination sequence.
