- Abstract: A copy of a letter from Harford Jones, Resident in Bagdad [Baghdad], to Jonathan Duncan, Governor of Bombay [Mumbai], sent from Bagdad and dated 12 February 1799.The letter complains of the conduct of John Lewis Reinaud, former agent of the Bussora [Basra] Residency in Bagdad, regarding communication with the Pashaw [Büyük Sulaymān Pāshā, Governor of Baghdad].Attached are two letters between Jones and Reinaud dated 9-10 February 1799. Jones remonstrates with Reinaud for meeting with the the Pashaw and the Diwan Effendisi [Secretary] without Jones’s approbation. Reinaud claims that the visits were personal.Also attached is a copy of a letter from Jones to Reinaud dated 20 September 1798. The letter announces Jones’s appointment as Resident in Bagdad, instructing Reinaud henceforward to transmit any political instructions to Jones and to cease all public meetings with the Pashaw and his government.Physical description: 1 item (4 folios)
