- Abstract: A copy of a letter from Harford Jones, Resident in Bagdad [Baghdad], to Jonathan Duncan, Governor of Bombay, sent from Bagdad and dated 4 August 1801.The letter describes a dispute between Jones and the Pashaw [Büyük Sulaymān Pāshā, Governor of Baghdad] concerning allegations of a Turkish woman visiting Jones’s house, the Pashaw’s obstruction of the transit of Jones’s correspondence, public distinctions, fines levied by the Pashaw against the Dragoman Biratty [Birati] [commissioned interpreter] Morad Coen, and the removal of Nobatchys and Chouses [nöbetçi and çavuş, guards] in Jones’s service.The letter also forwards correspondence on the disputes (catalogued as IOR/L/PS/9/76/159-162, 164-167, 171).Physical description: 1 item (4 folios)
