Abstract: A copy of a letter from Captain Thomas Thompson, Commander of the British troops on Kishmee [Qeshm], to Henry Willock, HM Chargé d’Affaires in Persia [Iran], sent from camp at Deristan [Dayrestān] on Kishmee and dated 7 September 1820.The letter reports the landing of troops on Kishmee following the destruction and evacuation of Ras il Khyma [Ra’s al-Khaymah], and assesses the suitability of the island as a military base. It also reports the view of the Imaum [Imam] of Muscat on the British occupation of Kishmee and his rejection of Persian claims to the island.The letter was enclosed in Willock’s letter to the Secret Committee of the Court of Directors of the East India Company dated 26 December 1820 [IOR/L/PS/9/69/54].Physical description: Condition: the letter was perforated in an attempt to stop the spread of disease.
