- Abstract: This printed booklet, produced by the Colonial Office in August 1928, is an account of Sir Gilbert Clayton, His Britannic Majesty's Commissioner and Plenipotentiary, on the first part of his third mission (April-June 1928) to ‘Abd al-‘Azīz bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd (Ibn Saud), King of Hejaz [al-Ḥijāz] and Najd and its Dependencies. The purpose of the mission was to negotiate outstanding questions mainly concerning boundaries of and relations between Ibn Saud's territories and Iraq and Trans-Jordan following the Hadda and Bahra Agreements of 1925, and the Treaty of Jeddah of 1927.Clayton was accompanied by George Antonius, Assistant Secretary to the Palestine Government; Kinahan Cornwallis, Adviser to the Ministry of Interior in Iraq; Captain John Bagot Glubb, Administrative Inspector in the Iraq Government Service; Flight-Lieutenant G M Moore; and Bernard Henry Bourdillon, Counsellor to the Residency in Baghdad. 3. 'File 61/11 I (D 41) Relations between Nejd and Hejaz'

- Abstract: The volume consists of letters, telegrams, and memoranda relating to relations between Najd and the Hejaz. The majority of the correspondence is between Reader Bullard, the British Agent in Jeddah, the Political Residency in Bushire, the Political Agency in Bahrain, the Political Agency in Kuwait, the High Commissioner in Baghdad, the Colonial and Foreign Offices, both in London, the High Commissioner in Jerusalem, the Government of India, and Ibn Sa'ud himself, or his representatives.Most of the volume covers events leading up to, and immediately after, the Ikhwan's capture of Taif, including Hussein ibn 'Ali's abdication and his son 'Ali's attempts to retain control of the Hejaz. There is a detailed report of the capture of Taif by Bullard (folios 186-201, 273-281). The documents reflect British concern with the reaction of Indian Muslims, with duplicates of correspondence regularly forwarded to numerous offices back in India. Some papers are about the effort to evacuate British Indian refugees and pilgrims from the region.Other subjects covered in the volume are:the build-up to and ultimate failure of the Kuwait Conference of 1923-24;King Fuad of Egypt's suspected financial backing of Ibn Sa'ud's takeover of the Hejaz;the defining of the Hejaz-Trans-Jordan border;the motivations and movements of St John Philby and Rosita Forbes, both of whom were thought to be trying to gain entryinto Central Arabia.Notable in the volume are a newspaper cutting from The Times of Mesopotamia, dated 13 July 1923, regarding treaty negotiations between Britain and King Hussein (folio 4), and extracts of letters from Ameen Rihani to Ibn Sa'ud that had been intercepted by the British and which offer advice on foreign policy.Physical description: Main foliation sequence: numbers are written in pencil and circled, in the top right corner on the recto of each folio. - Abstract: The file concerns oil company proposals for the construction of a Trans-Arabian oil pipeline between the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean. The file largely consists of papers relating to Trans-Jordan and Palestine, and to a lesser extent, Saudi Arabia and Egypt (including correspondence from the Colonial Office, the High Commissioner for Palestine, and the Ministry of Fuel and Power, and memoranda issued by the Cabinet Chiefs of Staff Committee).The papers also include: correspondence concerning a proposal from the Arabian-American Oil Company (Aramco) for a hydrographic survey of the coast of Koweit [Kuwait] (including the Kuwait Neutral Zone), May-August 1945; and discussion of agreements between various oil companies (including the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, and the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company) relating to Kuwait oil, December 1946-June 1947.The file includes a divider, which gives a list of correspondence references contained in the file by year. - Abstract: This file is a continuation of IOR/L/PS/12/2851, and concerns the decision not to proceed with the proposed Haifa-Baghdad railway, but to focus on the improvement of road communications.The file consists of reports on the proposals submitted by the Palestine Corporation Limited (see IOR/L/PS/12/2851 ff 14-30), and alternative proposals and surveys submitted by the War Office, the Air Ministry, and the Director of Public Works for Trans-Jordan.
