- Abstract: The file contains correspondence, circulars and other papers relating to visits by the Viceroy and Governor-General of India (the Marquis of Willingdon, Major Freeman Freeman-Thomas) and his wife Lady Willingdon (Marie Freeman-Thomas) to Bahrain and Sharjah in May 1934, while travelling by Imperial Airways from Karachi to Basra, and their return to both of these places on the return flight back to Karachi in August 1934. - Abstract: Memorandum communicated by the Air Ministry on 23 August 1928 concerning air communication in the Persian Gulf.Covering:an introduction to the development of the Persian and Arabian air routes;flights on the air route along the Persian shore from 1918 onwards;the association of the Government of India with the route - consisting of extracts from a memorandum by the Indian Air Board (an Advisory Committee to the Government of India) in 1926 entitled 'The Past History and Future Development of Civil Aviation in India';the attitude of Persia towards the use of the route by a regular Civil Air Service operated by Imperial Airways Limited;the air route along the Arabian shore described by section, and detailing the attitude of the shaikhs.Physical description: Foliation: the foliation sequence for this description commences at f 77, and terminates at f 79, as it is part of a larger physical volume; these numbers are written in pencil, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio. - Abstract: This file concerns visits made by Marie Freeman-Thomas, Marchioness of Willingdon (referred to as Lady Willingdon), wife of Freeman Freeman-Thomas, Marquess of Willingdon, Viceroy and Governor-General of India, to Bahrain and Sharjah on stopovers in June 1933. The file contains correspondence between Lieutenant-Colonel Percy Gordon Loch, Political Agent at Bahrain; Trenchard Craven Fowle, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf at Bushire; ‘Īsá bin ‘Abd al-Laṭīf, Residency Agent at Sharjah; and Imperial Airways. - Abstract: This file contains letters and paperwork relating to the arrangement of air passage from London to the Persian Gulf by the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf during 1947. - Abstract: This file contains papers relating to visa requirements for air passengers transiting through Arab states, which include the principalities of the Persian Gulf. The majority of the papers are exchanges detailing the visa requirements of passengers travelling between south, east, and southeast Asia to Europe or vice versa, via the Middle East. - Abstract: The file contains correspondence relating to the ceremonial visits made by the Viceroy of India to Bahrain, Kuwait and Sharjah in the summer of 1934, where he landed by aeroplane, on route from Karachi to England by Imperial Airways Ltd, for a period of home leave. The file contains reports by the Political Agent, Bahrain and the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf which describe the ceremonies that took place. Also included in the file are English translations of the speeches made by the Shaikhs of Bahrain and Sharjah to mark the Viceroy’s visit to their sheikhdoms, as well as a letter of greeting addressed to the Viceroy by the Sultan of Muscat and Oman.The file includes a divider, which gives a list of correspondence references contained in the file by year. - Abstract: The file concerns the making of a documentary film by the Strand Film Company, London, concerning the Imperial Airways route between the United Kingdom and Australia, which involved filming at Sharjah.The papers include: telegrams dated 1936 giving permission for the filming from the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf and the Government of India, provided no aerial photographs were made of prohibited areas, such as mosques, and military bases; a letter from Imperial Airways to the India Office dated 3 November 1936 describing the proposals for the filming at Sharjah (folio 12); and correspondence dated 1937 concerning the gift of three silver watches from Imperial Airways to the Shaikh of Sharjah, in gratitude for his providing facilities for the making of the film.The file includes a divider, which gives a list of correspondence references contained in the file by year.
