1. 'File D/3 Correspondence with Aden regarding Miscellaneous Matters'
- Description:
- Abstract: This file concerns an Aden-born twenty-five year old woman, Mariam bint Ahmed, and requests – made both by her brothers in Aden and by her Bahraini husband's son in Bahrain – for her to be repatriated to Aden. Mariam bint Ahmed's divorce, her former husband's death, and her unwillingness to return to Aden, are documented in the file. The file's principal correspondents are the following: the Civil Secretary, Aden; the Chief Commissioner, Aden; the Political Agent, Bahrain; the Assistant Political Agent, Bahrain; Charles Dalrymple Belgrave, Adviser to the Government of Bahrain; Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa [Shaikh Salmān bin Ḥamad Āl Khalīfah]. - Abstract: The file contains correspondence relating to the settlement of various civil claims referred to the Political Agent and Consul at Muscat, chiefly by Omani subjects in disputes over money with relatives or associates currently living and working in Bahrain and Sharjah. There are also attempts by the Political Agent and the Muscat authorities to trace the heirs to family property in Oman following the death of the owners. The main correspondents are: the Political Agent and Consul at Muscat, the Political Agent at Bahrain, the Residency Agent at Sharjah and the Adviser to the Government of Bahrain. - Abstract: The file contains papers relating to the service of petitions of alimony and divorce upon British subjects in Bahrain (also spelled Bahrein in the file).The papers include correspondence, dated 1940, regarding an enquiry from the High Commissioner for Canada about the procedure in effecting service upon a British subject at present in Bahrain of a petition of alimony being prepared as a result of a Decree Absolute of Divorce granted by the Supreme Court of British Columbia, and the possibility of enforcing in Bahrain the terms of an order for alimony and maintenance, in the event of such an order being made by the British Columbia Court. This correspondence is between the Official Secretary to the High Commissioner for Canada, the Dominions Office and the India Office.The file also includes correspondence, dated 1947, concerning a request by the Senior Master of the Supreme Court for the service in Bahrain of a petition of divorce. This correspondence is between the President of the King’s Bench Division of the High Court of Justice, the Senior Master of the Supreme Court, the Foreign Office, and the Commonwealth Relations Office (including internal CRO correspondence).In addition, the file includes a copy of ‘The Bahrein Order in Council, 1913’, and amendments to the Order in Council, dated 1915, 1917, 1922, and 1937.The file includes a divider, which gives a list of correspondence references contained in the file by year.
