1. '(F 69) File 82/26 A.P.O.C. - Muscat Oil Concession'
- Description:
- Abstract: The volume contains correspondence, telegrams and notes of meetings between the Political Agent at Muscat and the Political Resident at Bahrain and Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC) representatives regarding geologic surveys of Dhofar, Massirah and Batinah, Muskat, in Oman, and Gwadar, in Pakistan, carried on by geologists employed by D'Arcy Exploration Company. - Abstract: The volume contains correspondence between the Political Agent at Bahrain and the Political Resident at Bushire, the Shaikh of Qatar and the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC) representatives, including Haji 'Abdullah Williamson, the Colonial Office and the Secretary of State for Colonies in London, regarding geologic surveys of Qatar and Trucial States, the concession of an exploration license in 1926 and its renewal with an agreement between the ‘Abdullāh bin Jāsim Āl Thānī, Sheikh of Qatar, and APOC, in 1932 (folios 57-59).The volume also contains notes of meetings and correspondence regarding the early stages of the negotiations for the oil concession in Qatar, and the 1933 draft oil concessions (folios 120-125 and 248-268), with comments.There are documents in Arabic, mainly letters to and from the Sheikh of Qatar. 3. 'File 35/64 III Minerals in Oman. Madrasai geologists' researches'
- Description:
- Abstract: This file consists of correspondence relating to minerals in Oman. The main correspondents are Percy Zachariah Cox, Political Agent, Muscat; Lieutenant Colonel Charles Arnold Kemball, Political Resident Persian Gulf. Correspondence discusses coal in the Samhan Hills, in Dhofar, report of coal in Oman; export of coal from Sur; French interest. The presence of lead and manganese is also discussed.There is a map (folio 19) of the geology of the eastern part of Oman from Muscat to Ras al-Hadd.Two black and white photographs pasted into the volume on folios 50v and 51r show scenes in Dhofar (Dhufar) province.The photographs accompany a nine-page report (folios 48r-53r) dated 14 January 1907, by Major W. G. Grey on a visit to the province of Dhofar. Three additional photographs, on folios 49r, 49v and 51r have been lost or removed from the volume.Physical description: Foliation: The foliation sequence consists of pencil numbers, enclosed in a circle, located in the top right hand corner of the recto of each folio. The sequence commences on the front cover (although the number itself has been written on the inside of the cover), and concludes on the last folio. Foliation anomalies: 1A, 1B, 1C, 77A, 77B, 117A, 117B. The file also contains a former pagination sequence consisting of numbers written in blue crayon or pencil, which commences on folio 4 with the number 1. Only pages with writing on them have been paginated.
4. 'File 35/64 Mineral deposits in Dhofar'

- Abstract: The file contains two items. The first is 'A note on the Dhufar Province, Southern Arabia' by Gordon Noel Jackson dated 23rd June, 1943, Kuwait. This typed note is 8 pages and has sections on topography; climate; people; economy and finance; agriculture; administration; airport; security; of scientific interest; sport.The file also includes a 78 page printed report on 'The geology and mineral resources of Dhofar province, Muscat and Oman' by Sir Cyril S Fox. This report includes introductory remarks; physical geography; details of tour; geological considerations; economic minerals; industrial possibilities. The printed report includes a sketch map of Dhofar.Physical description: Foliation starts on first page of volume and continues to last page. Foliation in pencil in encircled numbers in top right corner of recto. Alternative foliation system starts with 34 on f.1 and continues to f.8. ff.9-54 are a booklet; f.55 is the envelope for the booklet. Additional foliation on 4 slips pasted into the booklet (18A, 20A, 21A, 26A).
5. 'File 82/1 IV (F 79) Anglo Persian Oil Company Arab Side (Kuwait, Bahrain, Nejd)'

- Abstract: The volume contains correspondence and telegrams between the Political Department, the Colonial Office and the Secretary of State at the India Office in London, the Political Resident at Bushire, the Political Agents at Kuwait and Anglo Persian Oil Company (APOC) representatives. Main subjects are the negotiations for oil concessions mainly in Kuwait, but also in Bahrain and Nejd [Najd, Jubail, Saudi Arabia] against the competitor Eastern and General Syndicate Limited, represented by Major Frank Holmes, and a geological exploration of Kuwait by APOC.The volume also includes a draft agreement on the oil exploration license in Kuwait, in Arabic and English, dated 13 August 1932, between Shaikh Aḥmad al-Jābir Āl Ṣabāḥ, ruler of Kuwait, and APOC (folios 120-131), and a Map of 'Kuwait Bay' on folio 132A.Some of the documents in the volume are marked as confidential and there are some documents in Arabic.Physical description: The main foliation is in pencil, encircled and in the top right corner of the recto of each folio. - Abstract: The file contains correspondence, primarily between the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, the Political Agent at Kuwait and the Political Agent at Bahrain, regarding terrestrial magnetic observations as part of a seismic survey carried out in various stations of the Persian Gulf by Kuwait Oil Company. 8. ‘File 16/73 Development of Artesian Water in Muscat’

- Abstract: Correspondence in the file dated 1941 is the result of an enquiry from the Political Agent in Muscat (Captain Tom Hickinbotham) to the Political Agent in Bahrain (Major Reginald George Evelin William Alban), about the prospects for an artesian water supply at Muscat, or elsewhere on the Batinah Coast (folio 3). A second set of correspondence, dated 1946, concerns arrangements for a Petroleum Concessions Limited geologist to visit Muscat to assess the area. - Abstract: This file contains papers relating to a request by the Iraqi Government to have its geologists conduct tests on rock formations in Kuwaiti territory. 10. 'File 11/15 Captain Eccles' Report on the Interior of Oman'
- Description:
- Abstract: This file contains a report compiled by Captain George J Eccles commandant at the Muscat Infantry on the interior of Oman in November and December of 1926. The file contains a detailed description of the expedition let by Eccles and included geologists and members of the National History Society. The expedition began at Beit al Falaj near Muscat and proceeded through Khaburah, Sham, Mahadhah, and Sohar. The report covers relations with and between various tribes visited on the expedition, including the Bani Umar, Bani Ali, and the Bani Ka'ab tribes. The expedition's formal title was that of a Geological Surveying Party of the D'Arcy Exploration Company.Physical description: Foliation: the foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the front cover with 1, and terminates at the inside back cover with 48; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio.
