Abstract: Copy of a letter from HM Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Persia [Iran], Sir Harford Jones, to Governor-General of the Presidency of Fort William, Lord Minto, of 15 October 1810. The letter concerns the Crown Prince of Persia, Abbas Meerza [Abbas Mirza]’s military campaign against the Russians in August and September 1810, including the role played by a small British detachment consisting of Jones’s military escort. The letter gives an account of the military operations, including an extract of a letter from a member of Jones’s escort, Lieutenant Charles Christie, detailing an unsuccessful Persian attack against Russian positions, and also contains Jones’s general reflections on Persian military campaigning against Russia in 1810.The letter was enclosed in Jones’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 16 October 1810, which was received on 11 March 1811.Physical description: 1 item (6 folios)
