- Abstract: The file contains correspondence and nil returns from the Political Agent, Bahrain to the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire about government expenditure incurred on the medical care in India, of officers and other staff of the Bahrain Agency, 1943 to 1945. The main file enclosures are as follows:Annual statement 1943-1944 and quarterly statements 1944-1945, showing that there was no expenditure from Central Revenues on medical attendance and treatment in Calcutta or other Indian provinces, of officers and staff of the Bahrain Agency;Memorandum entitled ‘Medical attendance and treatment – Central Government employees at Calcutta’, dated 18 March 1944, widely circulated by the Government of India, Department of Education, Health and Lands, New Delhi and providing information and guidance for officials, about the rules and procedures governing the eligibility and reimbursement of medical expenses incurred by government employees who travelled to Calcutta and elsewhere in India for treatment;A 1943 list of the eighteen returns to be submitted at regular intervals to the British Residency and Consulate-General, Bushire, by the Bahrain Agency about its staff and work, which included such diverse activities as death returns of British Indian subjects, locust reports and budget estimates.The file cover appears to have been re-used. On the front cover, the former file title ‘Statement of returns required of this Agency’ has been crossed out.Physical description: Foliation: numbered 1-28. The numbering is written in pencil in the top right corner of the folio. 2. ‘File 15/40 Economy in use of stationery’
- Description:
- Abstract: The file contains several Government of India memoranda dating from 1939 to 1941, mainly from the Labour Department and the Office of the Controller of Printing and Stationery, India. The memoranda stress the need for economy in the use of paper and other stationery by all government employees due to war-time conditions, which had caused domestic shortages in paper production, increased costs and difficulty in securing imported stationery requisites. The memoranda announce a reduction in stationery budgets and provide detailed practical instructions for staff about how to both limit their use of stationery and reduce their need for government printing and publications.The file also contains Office Order No.11 dated 6 February 1942, compiled and circulated by the Secretary to the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, to all Residency and Agency staff in the region. This document contains detailed instructions on the economic use of paper and other stationery by local staff, when carrying out their normal duties.Physical description: The main foliation sequence commences at the front cover and terminates at the back cover; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and can be found in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio. A second foliation sequence can be found between ff 2-27; these numbers are also written in pencil, but are not circled, and can be found in the same position as the main sequence. A third foliation sequence runs alongside the second sequence, but has been crossed out. Circled index numbers can be found throughout the file, written in a combination of red crayon and ink. Foliation errors: no folio 15, 20, 20A and 20B.

- Abstract: The file contains correspondence between the Political Agent, Bahrain and the Secretary to the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire about improving and regularly testing the typing speed of several clerks and munshis employed at the Political Agency, Bahrain.File correspondence consists mainly of lists of the monthly typing test results for several clerks and munshis at Bahrain, as reported to Bushire.Physical description: The foliation sequence is in pencil, uncircled and appears in the top right corner. It commences on the first page following the front cover. There are also circled index numbers in red crayon. The file cover consists of a large, folded, blank sheet.
4. ‘File 15/3 Rules and Regulations received from the Residency Office – Bushire, etc.’

- Abstract: The file contains mainly circular memoranda issued by the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire to the Political Agent, Bahrain and others. These contain local instructions about personnel management, office administration and several miscellaneous topics, including:Permitted occasions upon which British subjects and British protected persons ashore on both sides of the Persian Gulf might fly the Red Ensign flag, 1928;The classification, translation, copying, transmission and addressing of official correspondence sent by the Political Agencies of the Persian Gulf to the Political Residency at Bushire, 1920s-1940s, together with revised arrangements following the removal of the Residency from Bushire to Bahrain, 1946-1947;Procedures for the importation of personal effects into Persia by Persian Gulf officers and clerks, together with a list of prohibited articles, 1931;Procedures to be followed by clerks in the British Agencies of the Persian Gulf, for obtaining visas for entry into Iran, 1940.The file also contains the Political Resident’s routine reporting requirements about the promotion, transfer, leave, travel and skills of Persian Gulf officers and clerks, together with the Political Agent’s submissions to the Political Resident about these, in respect of Bahrain Agency staff, 1930s-1940s.The file also contains circular letters and memoranda received by the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, mainly from Government of India departments, which he then forwarded to the Political Agent, Bahrain and others for information. These also constitute office instructions on various topics, including:Procedures to be followed by officers and clerks in the Persian Gulf service, claiming the refund of messing charges incurred aboard British and Royal Indian Marine ships when touring on duty, as notified by the Government of India Foreign and Political Department and Marine Department, 1920s;Changes of Persian country and place names made by the Persian Government, 1930 and 1935, as notified by the British Legation, Tehran and the Government of India, Foreign and Political Department;Correct forms of address to be used in official correspondence, as notified by the British Embassy, Baghdad in 1933 and the Office of the Governor-General of India in 1938.The file also contains several miscellaneous items, mainly correspondence, including:Letters of thanks exchanged between the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf and the Director of the Persian Gulf Section of the Indo European Telegraph Department in 1931, following the abolition of the lndo European Telegraph Department after 60 years;A copy of the Imperial Airways Gazette, issue No 7, Volume 7, July 1935.Physical description: Foliation: numbered 1-7, 7a, 8-11, 11A, 12-14, 14a, 15-42, 42A, 43-52, 52A, 53-61, 61A, 61B, 61C, 62-155. Folio 3 is folded in half.The most complete secondary foliation system occurs in the second half of the file, where folios 73 to 144 are also numbered 68 to 135 in the top right corner, in pencil but not circled.
