- Abstract: The file consists of copies of Office Orders, both those issued by the Political Agency, Bahrain in its own right, and those issued by the British Residency and Consulate General, Bushire, and then forwarded to the Bahrain Agency amongst other British agencies and consulates. The Orders cover the official notification of such issues as advances of pay; appointments/postings; discharges from employment; travel allowances; leave; payment of dearness allowance; procedure relating to correspondence, telegrams, office security, cleaning, reporting for duty, the handling by clerks of sums of money in excess of 100 rupees, time of starting work; and general matters, with some associated correspondence. - Abstract: The file contains three items of of correspondence between the Political Agent, Bahrain, and the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bahrain. The first item relates to the closure of the Naval Base and contains a request by the Political Agent that suitable buildings at the Base be used as accommodation for Agency staff. The letter also refers to the possibility of the continued use of the plant and machinery at the Naval Base, especially the water distilling plant, by the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC). - Abstract: The file contains records of valuables kept on deposit [some as a result of legal cases], and firearms, ammunition, documents, and other items stored securely at the Political Agency, Bahrain.The papers include statements, lists, notes, receipts, and a small amount of correspondence, and consist of: statements showing valuables on deposit, 1930-48; statements showing cash balances and local funds account, 1933; statements of Government property, 1933-39; lists of Bahrain Agency property, 1941 to 1948; lists of Toshakhana articles [securely stored valuables and firearms], 1933 to 1948; list of articles handed over to broker for sale, July 1944; list of condemned ammunition dumped in the sea, 1947; miscellaneous lists; and receipts for items sold or held in safekeeping. The statements and lists are signed by the relieving and relieved Clerks, and countersigned by the Political Agent. - Abstract: The file relates to administrative arrangements for examinations of Officers of the Foreign and Political Department of the Government of India (later in the file referred to as probationers of the Indian Political Service), specifically to examinations taken by several holders of the post of Assistant Political Agent, Bahrain.The papers cover syllabus; arrangements for date of examination; arrangements for oral examination, which was carried out by the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; notification of result; and correspondence relating to a successful appeal by the Political Agent, Bahrain to a decision by the Government of India on an experimental basis to hold no local exminations in 1938: the Political Agent requested that his Assistant be permitted to sit the examination in Bahrain instead of Bushire, which would have entailed his being absent from Bahrain for a period of one-two weeks, September 1937 to May 1938.Physical description: Foliation: the foliation system in use commences at 1 on the front cover, and continues through to 20 on the back cover. - Abstract: The file relates to recess (relocation on duty, mainly to Shiraz, to avoid the hot summer climate at Bahrain) for members of the Clerical staff of the Political Agency, Bahrain (excluding local, Arab, members of staff). The papers, which consist of correspondence, memoranda, and telegrams, cover the following topics: administrative arrangements for recess of clerical staff and their familes; travel arrangements; request for permission for family members to travel by ship in anticipation of sanction of Ministry of War Transport to their carriage, August 1943; and entitlement of members of clerical staff to travel allowance as they were on duty.The covering dates of the correspondence (the main body of papers) in the file are 27 June 1943 to 11 April 1945. - Abstract: The file contains two letters (dated 1949) in connection with the pay and allowances of two Indian nationals employed in the Persian Gulf Cadre (service) during the transition of power from Great Britain to India (Indian Independence) in 1947. The first letter is a submission from the Political Agent at Kuwait to the Political Resident at Bahrain, commending the work done by Mr Rosario, Head of the Confidential Office and recommending that he should receive a special additional monthly allowance. The second letter is from the Persian Gulf Residency at Bahrain to the Government of India Ministry of External Affairs at New Delhi, apologizing for having made a late submission of a supplementary bill for the cost of dollar exchange and interim relief pay of Kuwait Agency clerk Mr A S Rosario (also spelt Rozario) and Bahrain Agency clerk Mr K Vishwanathan, both Indian nationals, during the period 1 May 1945 to 28 February 1947. - Abstract: The file contains correspondence between officials at the Political Agency in Kuwait, the Persian Gulf Residency in Bahrain, and the Establishment and Organisation Department of the Foreign Office in London, about the pay, allowances and leave entitlements of the two local Arab clerks employed at the Kuwait Agency: Mr Kadoo (also spelt Kaddo) the interpreter and Mr Mohsin the passport clerk. The correspondence includes details of their pay and allowances, and in particular the figure of rent allowance for Mr Kadoo in view of the high cost of living in Kuwait. The correspondence also discusses their revised terms and conditions of employment, following their transfer from Government of India service to British Government service under Foreign Office rules. - Abstract: The file contains complaint and resignation letters from the only two locally-engaged clerical staff working at the British Political Agency in Kuwait: Abdul Mohsin, the passport clerk, and Israel Kadoo (also spelt Kaddo), the interpreter. The complaints centre around their pay, allowances and leave entitlements, following their transfer from Government of India to British Government service under Foreign Office terms and conditions in 1948 (as a result of Indian Independence in 1947). The two petitioners are the subject of the bulk of the correspondence in the file, conducted between: the Political Agent at Kuwait; the Political Resident and his Secretary at the Persian Gulf Residency in Bahrain; and the Establishment and Organisation Department of the Foreign Office in London.
