- Abstract: The volume mainly contains correspondence between the Political Agent in Bahrain, the Political Resident in Bushire, the Adviser to the Government in Bahrain, Charles Dalrymple Belgrave, and representatives of the Bahrain Petroleum Company Limited (BAPCO) on the protection of oil fields in Bahrain from sabotage and bombing and on the decrease of the oil production during the World War Two. - Abstract: The papers in this volume date mostly from 1933-1934. The volume contains copies of correspondence between the Political Resident at Bahrain and the Secretary of State for India in London about oil concession in Qatar and the negotiations between the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC) and the Sheikh of Qatar.The volume includes:draft dated 14 December 1933 of the 75 years' agreement between A.P.O.C. and the Sheikh (ff. 27-47);letter dated 4 July 1933 regarding the boundaries of Qatar from the Political Agent in Kuwait, N. R. P. Dickson, to the Political Resident in Bushire (f. 56);telegram 2 January 1934 sent by the Resident to the Secretary of State for India which says that the Sheikh demands 500.000 rupees per year in addition to royalties and A.P.O.C. - Abstract: The file contains copies of correspondence, reports and other papers concerning oil storage facilities requested by the United States Army Transport Corps (USATC) at Muharraq airfield in Bahrain. The principal correspondents in the file are: the Political Agent at Bahrain (Major Tom Hickinbotham); the Royal Air Force (RAF) Air Liaison Officer (ALO) at Bahrain, Squadron Leader W A Chase; representatives of the Air Ministry and India Office.The file includes:correspondence and notes, chiefly written by the Political Agent at Bahrain during the period November to December 1943, concerning meetings held with the ALO at Bahrain, US Army and RAF officials, concerning the USATC’s requests for Bahrain and Sharjah (specifically, aviation fuel supplies, accommodation and wireless facilities at Bahrain), in anticipation of the increased movement of US troops to the Far East theatre of war (ff 2-36);correspondence dated 1944 concerning the installation of a pipeline to carry aviation fuel from the Bahrain Petroleum Company’s (BAPCO) refinery to the RAF jetty at Manama and airfield at Muharraq, and fuel storage tanks at Muharraq. Correspondence concerning the fuel storage tanks occupies much of the remainder of the file, and includes correspondence between various parties including the Political Agent at Bahrain, the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf (Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Geoffrey Prior) and India Office and Air Ministry officials. - Abstract: This file concerns the possible appointment of a vice-consul at Dhahran [al-Ẓahrān] by the Government of India. Correspondents in the file include Lieutenant-Colonel William Rupert Hay, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf at Bahrain; Cornelius James Pelly, the Political Agent at Bahrain; and Lloyd Moore, Resident Manager of the Arabian American Oil Company (Aramco), Bahrain. In a letter, dated 4 April 1947, Hay enquires as to the extent of Indian interests at Dhahran and the number of Indians employed by Aramco. In a letter, dated 23 April 1947, Moore informs Pelly that there are 638 Indian employees of Aramco at Dhahran as of 31 March 1947. - Abstract: This file contains letters relating to the presence of Max Thornburg in Bahrain during 1946, and his plans to settle on the Island of Um-as-Sabban. The papers are speculative exchanges between various the British Political Resident in the Persian Gulf and the Government of India on the nature of Thornburg's intentions in Bahrain. The letters discuss his possible relations with various oil companies, and research relating to American commercial interests in Turkey.
