- Abstract: The item consists of copies and extracts of correspondence and minutes, which form partial enclosures to a letter from the Government of Bombay [Mumbai] to the East India Company Court of Directors, dated 14 February 1846. A copy of this letter can be found at IOR/F/4/2142/102302, alongside details of further enclosures.The item contains a report from Stafford Bettesworth Haines, Captain in the Indian Navy and Political Agent at Aden, to the Government of Bombay. Haines reports on the progress made in building new houses and shops at Aden. His report contains a list of these new buildings (folios 183-186), providing details on: the names of owners; the size; the number of buildings; the state of progress; and any further remarks. Haines suggests that the 'quit rent' [a type of land tax] should be postponed and explains his reasoning. - Abstract: The file consists of proofs for a proposed Mesopotamia Blue Book [a British Parliamentary official report concerning the Mesopotamian Campaign, 1914-18]. The papers consist of numbered transcribed paraphrased and unparaphrased official telegrams (particularly from the Commander of the Expeditionary Force, 1915-16, General Sir John Eccles Nixon, the Viceroy, and the Secretary of State for India) relating to military operations during the advance from Basra in 1915. The proofs were submitted to the Secretary of State for India, and include notes by John Evelyn Shuckburgh, India Office.The papers are enclosed an a folder inscribed: 'Military Department. - Abstract: The volume contains printed monthly memoranda of information received by the Government of India 'regarding external affairs relating to Persia' for the months of January to December 1905 inclusive (folios 4-57); and memoranda of information received 'regarding affairs on and beyond the North-West Frontier of India', for the months of January to December 1905 inclusive (folios 58-150). - Abstract: Monthly reports submitted by the British Consul General at Tabriz, concerning events in Tabriz and Azerbaijan. The reports, which span the period January 1946 to January 1948, cover: the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Azerbaijan following the Anglo-Soviet occupation of Iran during the Second World War; the short-lived existence of the Azerbaijan People’s Government, declared in November 1945; the activities of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan and its leader Ja’far Pishevari; the Iranian Government’s reassertion of control in Azerbaijan in 1947. The reports include sections describing: the general situation (with a detailed chronology of events given for reports covering January 1947 to May 1947); the activities of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan; military operations; internal security; trade and industry; finance; communications; agriculture; Kurdish affairs; Armenian affairs; British, Soviet and American [USA] interests, including propaganda. The file includes an English translation of an agreement between representatives of the Government of Iran and the Azerbaijan People’s Government, the original of which was published in the newspaper Azerbaijanon 16 June 1946 (ff 165-167).The file includes a divider, which gives a list of correspondence references contained in the file by year.
