- Abstract: The file contains correspondence, circulars and other papers relating to visits by the Viceroy and Governor-General of India (the Marquis of Willingdon, Major Freeman Freeman-Thomas) and his wife Lady Willingdon (Marie Freeman-Thomas) to Bahrain and Sharjah in May 1934, while travelling by Imperial Airways from Karachi to Basra, and their return to both of these places on the return flight back to Karachi in August 1934. 2. ‘19/10 VISITS OF FOREIGN NOTABILITIES TO BAHRAIN’

- Abstract: The file comprises correspondence and papers relating to visits to the Persian Gulf by foreign dignitaries. Correspondents in the file include the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, and the Political Agents at Bahrain and Kuwait.The file includes:correspondence relating to the visit to Bahrain in December 1937 of Amir Sa‘ūd bin ‘Abd al-‘Azīz Āl Sa‘ūd from Saudi Arabia, including: discussion amongst British Government officials who take a positive view of the proposed visit; a letter from the Political Agent in Bahrain (Captain Tom Hickinbotham) to the Ruler of Bahrain (Sheikh Ḥamad bin ‘Īsá Āl Khalīfah), dated 7 October 1937, insisting that he be present during any political discussions (ff 24-25); reports in late December 1937 of the visit, written by the Political Agent Hugh Weightman (ff 43-48) and an unknown author (ff 50-53). Some visits were carried via HMS Shoreham, so there is also correspondence with its Captain, G H Faulkner, and with British Overseas Airways Corporation representatives, regarding the fares to be paid by the Agent when staying in their Fort in Sharjah.The file also contains:correspondence with the Adviser to the Government at Bahrain regarding special authorization to land on Muharraq;correspondence with the Political Agent at Kuwait regarding his visit to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and other visits by British officials;reports of visits.The documents in the file are mainly in English. - Abstract: This file contains correspondence between British officials regarding visits to Bahrain made by American officials based in Iraq.Correspondence on folios 1-86 relates to visits made to Bahrain by Paul Knabenshue, the Minister Resident of the United States of America in Baghdad, in 1934 (folios 1-72), 1937 (folios 73-79) and 1940 (folios 80-86).Further correspondence in the file relates to a visit to Bahrain made by Knabenshue's successor, Loy W Henderson, in March 1944 (folios 87-109). - Abstract: The file contains correspondence between the Political Agent at Bahrain, the Political Residency in the Persian Gulf, the Adviser to the Government at Bahrain regarding Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester's visit to Sharjah and Bahrain.The file contains lists of invitees to formal parties in honour of the Duke, and arrangements for his meeting with Gulf Rulers. The main subject of the file is the Duke of Gloucester's visit to the Ruler of Bahrain, Shaikh Salmān bin Ḥamad Āl Khalīfah, whom he presented with two Italian 105 mm guns with 1,000 rounds of ammunition. - Abstract: Correspondence and other papers relating to the visits of foreign dignitaries (chiefly rulers from the shaikhdoms along the Arab coast of the Gulf) to Bahrain. The majority of the correspondence details the movements of these dignitaries, and their arrival in or departure from Bahrain, as reported by the Political Agent at Bahrain, other Political Agents in the Gulf, the Residency Agent at Sharjah, and officers on board Royal Navy vessels in the Gulf. The file also includes letters (in Arabic, most with English translations) from a number of Arab rulers, including the Ruler of Bahrain, Shaikh Ḥamad bin ‘Īsá Āl Khalīfah.Visits to Bahrain covered by the file include:in 1932, the French Consul Georges Cassin. Cassin’s visiting card is affixed to the first page of file notes (f 63);in 1939, a visit by King Ibn Saoud [sic] of Saudi Arabia [‘Abd al-‘Azīz bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd (Ibn Sa‘ūd)].
