The Political Resident in the Persian Gulf throughout the period was Captain (James) Felix Jones.The main correspondents are Hajee Jassem [Ḥājjī Jāsim], British Agent at Bahrein; Henry Lacon Anderson, Secretary to Government, Bombay, and Acting Secretaries to Government, Bombay; Herbert Frederick Disbrowe, Assistant Resident in the Persian Gulf; Commanders of the Persian Gulf Squadron; Arnold Burrowes Kemball, Political Agent in Turkish Arabia, Baghdad; Mahomed ben Khuleefa, Sheikh (or Chief) of Bahrein [Muḥammed bin Khalīfah Āl Khalīfah]; Mahomed bin Abdullah [Muḥammad bin ‘Abdullāh], Sheikh (or Chief) of Demaum [Dammām]; and other local rulers and officials. - Abstract: The volume consists of correspondence sent to the Bushire Residency; the principal correspondents being Major Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf at the time, and the Secretaries to the Government at Bombay.The letters transmit printed circulars issued by the Government of India reporting on the victories achieved over the Sikh Army during the Sikh War, between December 1845 and February 1846. They include lists of officers killed and wounded during the Battle of Mudki, on 18 December 1845 (folios 9v-11v) and during the Battle of Sobraon, on 10 February 1846 (folios 32v-34v).Relations with the Wahabee (Wahabi) Chief in the Persian Gulf are also covered in the volume.Physical description: Foliation: the foliation is circled in pencil, in the top right corner of the recto of each folio. The numbering begins on the front cover, on number 1, and ends on the inside of the back cover, on number 41. There is an incomplete pagination sequence, which is written in ink, in the top right corners of the rectos and in the top left corners of the versos.
10. ‘Vol 21 Letters inward’

- Abstract: The file contains copies of correspondence addressed to the Resident at Bushire, Captain William Bruce, and to James Dow, Acting Resident at Bushire. Correspondence is sent to the Resident by a range of individuals, including various secretaries to the Government in Bombay, representatives of the civil and military auditors in Bombay, the British Envoy in Persia, Sir Henry Willock, and the Commanding Officers and Paymasters of British vessels on missions in the Gulf.The subjects covered in the file include: the forwarding and receiving of packets and letters from Tehran, Bombay; disbursements and other financial activities of the Residency; ongoing British military action against the Al Qasimi tribe at Ra's al-Khaymah.Physical description: Foliation: The volume has been foliated from the front cover to the inside back cover, with small circled numbers in the top-right corner of each recto. The volume also has an original pagination system, which uses ink numbers in the top-right corner of recto pages, and the top-left corner of verso pages.Condition: There is some insect damage throughout the volume, but it is not sufficient to impair the legibility or understanding of the material. Some of the pages at the back of the volume have suffered from water damage, which has made text more difficult to read, but not illegible.

- Abstract: The volume contains correspondence sent by the Resident in the Persian Gulf, Captain David Wilson. - Abstract: The statement gives the following information for each tribe listed:Name of the tribeName of its ChiefIts place of headquartersNumber of subdivisionsPopulationAmount of tribute paid to Amir Faisul ibn Turki al-Sa'udNumber of horses procurable by each tribeRemarksThe remarks relate to the expectation that the Chief of each tribe would each year give horses to Amir Faisul. The amount of horses is determined by the number of Jama (subdivisions) the tribe had; in return the chief would receive clothes, weapons and dates from the Amir. A further remark notes that those tribes who pay no tribute are expected to protect the Nejd [Najd] frontiers and to go on any expeditions that the Amir wishes them to.Physical description: The folio has to be folded out in order to be read.
