1. ‘Persian Gulf – Establishment of Peons allowed to the Residency in the –.’

- Abstract: This item consists of copies of correspondence, minutes, and consultations, cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay. It is the second in a series of seven items about the Persian Gulf (the others are IOR/F/4/1912/81793, 81795, 81796, 81797, 81798, and 81799). The correspondents are the governments of Bombay and India, and Samuel Hennell, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf.This item concerns a request by Hennell that the Residency in Karrak [Jazīreh-ye Khārk] employ one havildar, four peons, and two sweepers. After consultation with the Government of Bombay and the Government of India, Hennell only employed one sweeper, not two. It is the first in a series of seven items about the Persian Gulf (the others are IOR/F/4/1912/81794, 81795, 81796, 81797, 81798, and 81799). The correspondents are the governments of Bombay and India, and Samuel Hennell, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf.This item concerns Hennell’s report of a fire at the Residency compound at Karrak [Jazīreh-ye Khārk] which destroyed a temporary building. A list of furniture destroyed is included, with the value of 745 rupees, 12 annas, and three pies [paise]. - Abstract: The item mainly relates to affairs in the Persian Gulf. It chiefly comprises copies of despatches of Captain Samuel Hennell, Political Resident, Persian Gulf, to John Pollard Willoughby, Secretary to the Government, Bombay [Mumbai], with relevant enclosures, such as letters to and from Hennell, reports, and translations of letters. It also includes: Willoughby’s acknowledgments of receipt; Hennell’s reports to the Secret Committee of the Court of Directors, EIC; and Willoughby’s communications with Thomas Herbert Maddock, Secretary to the Government of India with the Governor-General. 6. Enclosure in Letter from Henry Willock to the Secret Committee of 16 Apr 1820

- Abstract: An extract of a letter from William Bruce, Resident in Bushire [Būshehr], sent from Bushire and dated 13 March 1820. The letter reports the sinking of the East India ship Arieloff the island of Karrak [Khārg].The letter was enclosed in the letter of Henry Willock, HM Chargé d’Affaires in Persia [Iran], to the Secret Committee of the Court of Directors of the East India Company, dated 16 April 1820 [IOR/L/PS/9/69/12].Physical description: Condition: the letter was perforated in an attempt to stop the spread of disease.
