- Abstract: This item consists of different extracts of the Bombay Public Consultations, regarding an act of piracy and murder that was reportedly committed by the native crew of the country ship Alert. The Alertwas bound for Bengal port laden with dispatches principally belonging to the East India Company. - Abstract: The item consists of copies and extracts of correspondence and minutes cited in, or enclosed with, a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, 13 January 1853, and found at IOR/F/4/2504/142185. The item is the fourteenth in a series of sixteen items about the Persian Gulf.The item contains a letter from Captain Arnold Burrowes Kemball, Resident in the Persian Gulf, to the Government of Bombay, regarding a complaint he has received from Sheik Saeed ben Guzeeb, Governor of Lingah [Shaikh Sa‘īd bin Qaḍīb, Shaikh of Bander-e Lengeh]. Following a dispute at Nukheeloo [Bandar-e Nakhilu] between sailors, which resulted in the death of one of his subjects, Sheik Saeed complains that the nakhodah [nakhuda] of the Mahmoodee[ Maḥmūdī] has not yet taken responsibility for the actions of his crew, nor paid the 'blood-money' owed to the deceased's family.Kemball makes suggestions to the Government for rectifying the situation, including contacting the owner of the Mahmoodee, Hajee Mahomed Bauker [Ḥājjī Muḥammad Bāqir], and potentially penalising the Mahmoodeeusing penalties prescribed in a Government notification of 5 July 1852 (copy included at folios 1268-1273). The papers contained in this item are partial enclosures to a Political Letter sent from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, 10 June 1845. A copy of this Political Letter can be found at IOR/F/4/2122/100076, alongside details of further enclosures.The item relates to a letter, dated 9 May 1845, to the Government of Bombay from the Government of India, relaying the Governor-General's approval of the proceedings of the former with regards to the departure to Tehran of two of the Arab men accused of murdering Bebee Asselo ([Bibi Asilu], widow of the former Native Agent at Shiraz). - Abstract: The volume contains correspondence relating to nine cases of shipwreck, plunder, piracy, or other maritime outrage, each assigned in the volume under the ‘Heading VIII: Wrecks, maritime outrages, etc.’ and each taking place during the period 1857 to 1861. Correspondence includes the original reports of each case, the Resident’s instructions to naval officers in the Gulf to investigate the incident, and to retrieve stolen property, identify the culprits, or obtain compensation, where appropriate, the Resident’s report of the incident to the Bombay Government, and the Bombay Government’s response, frequently containing extracts of resolutions or official notes relating to the incident.
