A copy of this Political Letter can be found at IOR/F/4/2238/112322, alongside details of further enclosures. The item is the thirtieth in a series of fifty-nine items on events in the Persian Gulf.The item relates to a report from the Native Agent at Bahrein [Bahrain], to Major Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf, dated 24 August 1847. The Native Agent reports on the outcomes of the recent negotiations at Nedjd [Najd] between Shaik Busheer bin Ramah [Shaikh Bashīr bin Raḥmah], (on behalf of Shaik Mahomed bin Khuleefa of Bahrein [Shaikh Muḥammad bin Khalīfah Āl Khalīfah, Shaikh of Bahrain]) and Ameer Fysul, the Wahabee ruler [Amīr Fayṣal bin Turkī bin ‘Abdullāh Āl Sa‘ūd, leader of the Wahhābī]. Hennell forwards the report on to the Government of Bombay along with his comments on the negotiations. The eighth item in the sequence is not present.The item contains a letter from Commander Felix Jones, Acting Resident Persian Gulf, to the Government of Bombay, dated 9 May 1856, regarding the recent plunder of a shipwrecked boat by inhabitants of Yemale [also rendered in text as Yemail] who are subjects of Bahrein [Bahrain]. Jones notes that the Banyan traders, to whom the cargo belonged, suspect that the plunderers also murdered their relative who was in charge of the cargo. These political letters appear in IOR/F/4/2416/130506. It is the second in a series of twenty-eight items on the Persian Gulf. The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Major Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf; and Lieutenant James Tronson, commanding the Honourable Company’s brig Euphrates.The item mostly concerns the preparations being made by Sheik Mahomed ben Khuleefa, Chief of Bahrein [Shaikh Muḥammad bin Khalīfah Āl Khalīfah, Ruler of Bahrain], in anticipation of an attack by the sons of Sheik Abdoolla ben Ahmed [Shaikh ‘Abdullāh bin Aḥmad Āl Khalīfah], the former Ruler of Bahrein. While currently based on the island of Kenn [Kish], they are reportedly planning to move to Khor ul Adeed [Khawr al ‘Udayd, also rendered as Khor-al-Adeed in the item] in preparation for an attack on Bahrein. It is the second in a series of eight items about the Persian Gulf.The item relates to actions taken by Lieutenant-Colonel Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf, following reports from Hajee Jassem [Ḥājjī Jāsim], Agent at Bahrein [Bahrain], of the plunder of boats from Bahrein and Kateef [Qatif] by Sheik Humud ben Mujuddil ul Amaeeree, Amaeer 'Chief ' [Shaikh Ḥamad bin Majdal al-‘Umayrī, Leader of al-‘Amāyir tribe]. As well as plunder, Sheik Humud has taken pilgrim passengers as captives to his stronghold on the island of Junnah [Jana]. Hajee Jassem links the incidents to recent disputes between Ameer Fysul [Amīr Fayṣal bin Turkī bin ‘Abdullāh Āl Sa‘ūd] and Sheik Mahomed ben Khuleefa [Shaikh Muḥammad bin Khalīfah Āl Khalīfah], Sheik of Bahrein. Hennell writes letters to Sheik Humud instructing him to release the captives he took from the boats.The item also contains Sheik Humud's response, as well as Hajee Jassem's further report that Sheik Humud released a number of the captives back to Bahrein where they were sold. Sheik Mohamed owed the money as he was acting as security on behalf of the rulers of the Guttur [Qatar] coast.
