Abstract: This item consists mostly of copies of correspondence, minutes and resolutions cited in, or enclosed with, letters to and from the Government of Bombay. It is the first in a series of 8 items on the subject of the alleged piracy of the Joasmee [Qawasim] (the others are: IOR/F/4/649/17851 and 17852, IOR/F/4/650/17853 and 17854, IOR/F/4/651/17855, and IOR/F/4/652/17856 and 17857). Abstract: Translation of a firman [order] from the Prince of Shirauz [Shiraz], to Major-General Sir William Grant Keir, which was received at Ras-ul Khyma [Ra’s al-Khaymah] on 9 January 1820. The Prince affirms Keir’s previous request for cooperation with the British expedition to the Persian Gulf to attack the Joasmee [al-Qawasim] and their allies, and communicates the assembling of an army and fleet between himself and the Imaum of Muskat [Imam of Muscat] to attack Kongoon [Kangān]. Abstract: Translation of the answer of the ministers of the Court of the Shah of Persia [Iran], dated 27 December 1819, to the official note of HM Chargé d'Affaires to Persia, Henry Willock, of 23 December 1819 (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/214). The note concerns the British intention of including ports on the Persian coast as targets in their planned expedition to the Persian Gulf to attack the Juwasemees [al-Qawasim] and their allies, who are accused by the British of piracy (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/213). The note denies the right of the British expedition to take offensive action against ports on the Persian coast on the grounds that they are under the jurisdiction of the Prince of Sheraz [Shiraz], Hussein Ali Mirza [Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mirzā Farmānfarmā], and expresses opposition to Willock’s suggestion that protection might be afforded by the Prince of Fars [Prince of Shiraz] to those accused of piracy. Abstract: Translation of a letter from the Prince of Shirauz [Shiraz], Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mirzā Farmānfarmā, to the Governor of Bombay, Sir Evan Nepean, received at Rasal Khyma [Ra’s al-Khaymah] on 25 December 1819. The letter is in reply to Nepean’s letter to the Prince of 9 October 1819 concerning the British expedition against the Joasimees [al-Qawasim] and their allies in the Persian Gulf, including those at ports on the Persian coast (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/213). Abstract: Translation of a firmaum [firman, order] from the Prince of Shirauz [Shiraz] to Major-General Sir William Grant Keir, the officer commanding the British expedition in the Persian Gulf, dated 9 Rabī‘ I 1235 [26 December 1819]. The firmaum forbids any offensive action against any ports along the Persian coast, particularly Linga [Lingeh]. Abstract: Minutes of a conference between HM Chargé d'Affaires to Persia [Iran], Henry Willock, and the ministers of the Court of the Shah of Persia on 22 December 1819. At the conference was discussed the Governor of Bombay’s communication to the Prince of Shiraz regarding the British intention to send an expeditionary force to the Persian Gulf to attack the Juwasemees [al-Qawasim] at Ra’s al-Khaymah and other ports accused by the British of piracy, including ports on the Persian coast (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/213). The letter communicates the intention of the British to send an expeditionary force to attack the Juwasemees [al-Qawasim] at Rasool Khyma [Ra’s al-Khaymah] and other ports in the Persian Gulf accused by the British of piracy.
